This exhibition features the traditional craftsmanship the school is renowned for with new and exciting work from the students and alumnus of North Bennet Street School’s cabinet and furniture making program.  North Bennet Street School has been training people for employment since 1885. It pioneered the concept of intensive instruction in a classroom/shop setting for the sole purpose of learning a trade.  Woodworking has been part of the school’s history since its founding. The traditional, two year, hands-on program has trained woodworkers, committed to the highest standards of the craft, from around the country and the world. The Ninth Annual Texas Furniture Makers Show is a juried statewide competition featuring 75 handcrafted pieces by the best custom furniture makers in Texas.  Work on display, available for sale, will range in style from Shaker, 19th century German, retro  ‘50s, modern Cedar log, Southwest Mesquite, and turquoise, to classic with a twist and mixed media eclectic. The show will be accessorized with quilts, hooked rugs, paintings, gourd art and turned wood.

Following an invitation by the American Irish Historical Society (AIHS), Irish Designer & Artist Joseph Walsh is presenting his first major solo exhibition of Design Art & Functional Objects. The exhibition honours Walsh’s achievements to date, presenting some of his most significant work created over the last 10 years. Featuring work that has successfully crossed the borders between design and art, engineering and craft, Realisations is a celebration of artistic communication through design, making and material.  Rich with conceptual thought, aesthetic value and structural resolve Walsh has, since he began his career, created a body of unique work.  He began making at a very young age, establishing a Studio and workshop in Ireland in 1999.  This has been developed, over subsequent years, into the unique environment it is today. The latest exhibit at the Messler Gallery, presents contemporary pieces by Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers in conjunction with work by seven accomplished furniture makers who passed through the Moser workshops early in their careers. These are Jas. Becker Cabinetmaker from Wilder, Vermont; Green Design Furniture from Portland, Maine; Huston & Co. from Kennebunkport, Maine; Kevin Rodel Furniture & Design Studio from Brunswick, Maine; Peter Thompson from Cornville, Maine; Vigneron Design Studio from Housatonic, Massachusetts; and Stewart Wurtz Furniture from Seattle, Washington.
In 1972, Tom Moser left a teaching career to rediscover the art of furniture making in an old Grange Hall in New Gloucester, Maine. Today, Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers employs nearly 100 craftsmen to produce an extensive line of residential and institutional furniture, yet the work retains Moser’s original commitment to the natural beauty of wood, enduring construction, and simple, unadorned, graceful design.
