Frederic Crist: Sculpture
Page Bond Gallery
Richmond, VA
June 11 – July 8, 2008
The Page Bond Gallery is pleased to present Gray: In Celebration of the Photograph in conjunction with the Festival of the Photograph in Charlottesville, Virginia happening June 12-14, and Frederic Crist: Sculpture, an exhibition of new work by the artist. In addition to Crist’s geometric bronze and steel sculptures, this exhibition showcases the photography of gallery artists, Hullihen Moore, William Wylie, Sally Mann, Laura Letinsky, Fleming Lunsford, Alyssa Salomon, Gordon Stettinius, and Janos Enyedi, as well as newcomers, Lee Saloutos, John Grant, Thomas Hager, Thurston Howes, Joseph Johnson, Allison Fiebert and Jenny McQueen.
The sculptural works of Frederic Crist are hand-forged using traditional blacksmithing techniques and joinery in iron, steel and brass. Crist’s intensely process-based engagement with the material is reflected in the way he identifies with his art, it reflects the emotional aspects of our personalities, the burdens of past and present . . . to make our lives more meaningful. It is in some manner a response to living in a chaotic and desperate world. Crist translates these sentiments to his stacked pillars of malleable metals that seem to give under the weight of the stack.
Page Bond Gallery is located at 1625 West Main St., in Richmond, Virginia. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 5pm; Summer hours are Monday – Friday 10am – 5pm, and by appointment. For more information call 804-359-3633. http://www.pagebondgallery.com/.
