May 7 – June 26, 2010

The upcoming exhibit at Wexler Gallery presents new works by contemporary studio furniture artists Thomas Hucker and Thomas Huang.

Thomas Hucker’s work focuses on the contextual relationship of his designs and their surroundings. According to the artist, “a piece of furniture’s composition, proportions, and finishes must relate to its surroundings, as furniture does not exist alone.” With a focus on designing and fabricating both functional furniture and sculptural objects, the artist is greatly influenced by traditional European and Asian furniture such as Beidemeir and Ming Dynasty, his aesthetic representing a unique fusion and interpretation of influences. Benefit Concert for the Jon Brooks New Studio Project
Spotlight Café
The Capitol Center for the Arts
Concord, NH
April 3, 2010 7:30 PM

In the early morning hours of January 18th, 2010 Jon Brooks lost his entire studio to a raging fire. All of Jon’s tools, his 40 year collection of special wood, his entire studio and it’s contents were destroyed. It is every artist’s fear and worst nightmare to have this kind of disaster happen.

A leading figure in The American Studio Furniture Movement, Jon will rebuild and carry on; it is his life’s mission to do so. But in this hard economy he will need all the support he can receive. To that end a concert will be held to benefit the Jon Brooks New Studio Project featuring music by Jon’s friends in three New Hampshire bands, Celticladda, Swing a Cat and The Moores. Artist fees and all proceeds will be donated to the Jon Brooks New Studio Project. (more…)
